Carnegie Mellon: Gates Hillman Center

Carnegie Mellon University selected SEMCO systems to support its energy efficiency goals for the Gates Center for Computer Science and the Hillman Center for Future‑Generation Technologies. Challenge

The university required HVAC systems capable of achieving high energy efficiency, supporting LEED certification goals, and maintaining proper ventilation, humidity control, and occupant comfort within large, variable‑air‑volume facilities.

Solution

SEMCO provided eleven variable air volume air handling units with integrated total energy recovery wheels, bypass dampers, direct digital controls, and full electrical packages. Additional instrumentation was installed to measure recovery wheel performance. Systems included factory‑tested control algorithms, sound attenuation measures, and rooftop and indoor installations configured to meet the facilities’ architectural and operational requirements.
